My goal is to finish reading Obama's book “The Promise Land” so I am going to use these blog post constantly to keep myself accountable. For this blog post, I am still working on chapter 4, this chapter had a focus on Obama's campaign to reach candidacy for the presidential position. What was interesting about this was that Obama during this time was in relative terms a tiny candidate in size of operations in comparison to others like Hillary Clinton and John Edwards. But even then managed to reach such opportunities as those with more resources, with much less. But how does someone reach this? You might think Obama is just locked in like that, but no, not at all. Obama actually was in the lower ranks regarding debates and being a politician. But what I found was that he was honest, strong with his message, and most importantly, knew how to make a team. While all these components are key, I found the most important one to be his ability to create a team and maintain it. He picked people who were all completely different; he had people who were analytical & serious, Creative & Intense, to Moderate & smart. And I think it's finding these people and knowing how they work with one another that made his campaign such a success.
As seen It's vital to have different personalities to create not only a campaign that captures all sorts of people but also that complements one another. But a big part of this is also having a strong leadership that knows how to manage these varying personalities, but most importantly, trusting the team. I think in my personal experience from Link Crew something that has made the class so fulfilling and successful is the fact that everyone has super different, notable personalities that really work well together. I notice that whenever I go to present or work on organizing an event, there are never lacks ideas and ideas for improvement. But also coming back to a similar thing to what Obama did wich was trusting your team. Its something that we get, as literally almost everything is done, planned, and executed completely by students. Wich at least for me, fulfills me and provides me with true leadership experience and has led to many of the successes that we have, and true, strong friendships with everyone I work with.
