For my next few blog posts I decided to focus on the content I learned from Barack Obama's Book “A Promise Land”. I finished reading chapter 4 and I am now diving into chapter 5 wich has a similar focus on choosing to run for president or abstaining. In chapter ⅘ he was still in the midst of weighing out his options on running for president. His family, happiness, impact, and chance at actually winning were all parts of making his choice. And after realizing this was his only chance at making a huge impact by becoming the first Black African American president and the huge changes he could make he accepted and started campaigning to gain a nomination. He talked about the struggles and learnings he gained from running, as he was a very big candidate before he was even nominated, so there was much more pressure on him than other candidates that started smaller and had time to iron out the small details. He also talked about the boring 16 hour days he spent campaigning while doing his job as senator, but focused on how while things looked boring, overwhelming, and sometimes sad that you need something to bring you back to normal reality.
After reading this I think Obama made the right decision, because he talked about how he could make a huge difference by simply being the first black president. And I can confirm that, because of him I can wake up and keep working hard knowing that I can also achieve things that seem impossible. I think I have felt the similar overwhelming, boring, and sad feeling he did (not at the same level at all). But I think understanding how important coming back to reality and the present is, has pushed me to take more time to focus on things that are not only important for my future but for my now. Having a laugh with friends, enjoying hobbies, playing fortnite, talking with my mom, this is what matters the most to me and I hope to do more of these this year and not only focus on my future but on the things that really matter and make me who I am.
